One of those days…

This month in Panama, my team and I are doing ATL (ask the lord). We are currently in an Air BnB, and we have to walk almost two miles to get into town. However, today it decided to pour down rain. After our walk into town, my clothes were soaked through, clearly my rain coat didn’t do its job, and on top of things, my pants ripped from the crotch down to the back of my leg…..fun right?? I know.
After getting to town, we stopped at a few thrift stores for some warmer clothes because we are in the mountains for the month. Still soaked with ripped pants, Mackenzie (subscribe to her blog @ mackenzieropka.theworldrace.org) and I had to go grocery shopping for the next three days for the team. The store was packed, not a lot of people spoke English, and we accidentally had a little miss communication with the butcher and he cut 2kg of turkey-ham instead of turkey breast. This lead to a little argument I am not too proud of…haha.
We get through the checkout line and we realized they had put everything we bought into one box… which was helpful, but also very heavy and one person couldn’t lift it. We also had to carry 3x 6L jugs of water. We then tried to call our taxi to find out he was on his lunch break at 4:45 in the afternoon, and just to remind you it’s still pouring down rain. There is only 2 of us, one large box of food and 3x 6L jugs of water, there’s no way we could have walked 2 miles all the way up hill back to the house. So Mackenzie ended up walking to the Main Street to flag down a taxi and direct him to the supermarket we were at. He didn’t understand so it took a couple tries for one to find us.
Once we arrived home though we were finally able to change into warm, dry clothes and even better, we decided on homemade chicken noodle soup for dinner and ice cream for dessert.
The moral of the story is that it was one of those days, however it could’ve been an even worse day and I didn’t realize it until after dinner. We could have never found warmer clothes, but we did. I still had clothes on my back even though they were soaking wet. We could have
had to carry all of the groceries by hand, but we were given a box. We could have had to walk all the way back to the house in the pouring rain, but a taxi showed up. And we could have had no dinner at all, but instead we had a warm home cooked meal with dessert.
As I’m sitting in my bed writing this, I’m thanking God and still remembering that He is still good and He still provides in so many ways everyday. So next time you’re having one of those days, remember all the little blessings in between and remember, He’s still good.
Much love,
Brookles
