I AM GOD’S DAUGHTER
Why must we complicate things? Made for and by, I am His and He is mine. Wired for relationships and blessed to be a blessing. It really is that simple. As a child you knew who you were and whose you were, but as you grew older you lost sight of that simplicity. You didn’t know who you were going to be or what you were going to do with your life, but you aced the first part and handed over the second to the world. For how long you surrendered yourself, or if I may use a stronger word, prostituted yourself, is not my story but yours to tell. It matters. It marked you. But God redeems all of this and more, that your story may be the rawest evidence on your lips changing lives in your walk. If you were to ask the beauty in blue her name from a very young age she would have proudly declared, “I Am God’s Daughter.” Khushbu is her name, but the claim placed on her life trumped her given name, and she instead chose those 4 words. She was chosen and she walked as if she knew it. Who are we to settle for less?
Khushbu lives in Nepal, a nation where 1% claim Christ, and the rest reject or refuse to acknowledge Him. She is surrounded by women who climb mountains believing that if only they prayed to a fertility god, they would be blessed with life inside. A young woman at her age knows from the time of her birth where she stands, and for most children it is not on a solid foundation in Christ. Your husband too, is chosen before your brain is fully developed. It is a rare honor to proudly say, “I married FOR LOVE.” Your last name defines your place in the world. You can die again and again, being born into 13 different worlds. 33 million gods are your hope and your doom simultaneously. Both Hinduism and Buddhism live here. At the age of 7 a child in Nepal can be labeled and worshiped as a “living goddess.” They can later end up prostituting themselves to provide for their families, in brothels disguised as snack shops. I’ve been there and seen it. I’ve felt the weight of their sigh with every man stepping foot in the door. They are to act subserviently served up an inferior education, payed less, preyed on and often punished in horrific ways. My friend’s husband tried to burn her alive, and she lived to tell her story. They can carry low self image and expectations, compared to their male counterparts, but they are some of the hardest working women in the world. Khushbu will not carry this story in Christ. She has settled whose she is, and she’d ask you to do the same.
With very short notice I was given the honor of leading a small group for these 5 precious gems. If you know anything about my walk in Christ, you already know that I am passionate about God’s kids knowing God and I live a life seeking wisdom and reminding women of all ages of their worth in Christ. This day was no different. I sat them down and we walked through Proverbs 31 showing them the WHAT and Proverbs 4 showing them HOW to get there. Have I arrived? Certainly not, but I do believe that just as her children called her BLESSED, mine will too. We talked about where to fix our eyes and how to strive not to swerve in life. At the end of our time together, I did a quick video of them where they introduced themselves, shared what they want to be when they grow up, and each of the young women I spent that hour pouring into, put on as clothing, the new name of BLESSED.
It doesn’t have to be so complicated. You have so much vying for your attention, but you have authority over all of it in Christ Jesus. Adjust yourself to this truth. What if you began to pray as years ago I got into the habit of doing, that they whoever they are would forget your name and only see Jesus? What if you, by example chose to respond, “I Am God’s Daughter?” Don’t complicate the simple truths. Each day can complicate itself. Settle it THIS day, whose you are. Trust the details with Him. Whose you are will shape who you are. If my family were to tell you who I am they wouldn’t go through the list of titles I carry, but simply state that I am His and my heart is for His people. I live out of the overflow of His love in my life….and these days you’re probably the receiving address. Thank you for your “YES!” Declare TODAY whose you are and wait on Him as He draws out the you He had in mind. My truest self is on the surface at 33, eager to meet you there. Don’t think I have arrived. I Am God’s Daughter!
