#4…11 World Race Personal Hygiene Do’s and Don’ts

1.  Don’t drink after anyone (only share yours by pouring)

2.  Don’t sit on toilet seats (but wipe them as a courtesy)

3.  Don’t forget to tear off the first square of toilet paper (think about it and you’ll arrive)

4.  Don’t put your hand into the open toilet paper roll

5.  Do put everything you’re not sleeping on into your pack’s air porter daily (especially food)

6.  Do shower daily (I prefer nightly)  

7.  Do carry toilet paper and plastic bags ( I also carry reusable pads)

8.  Do carry hand sanitizer

9.  Do encourage showering

10.  Do encourage others to travel prepared

11. Do check for lice nightly (especially if working in a children’s home, slum or orphanage)

#5…11 Mini Lessons for Teaching English

1.  Read a story, look for blends (bl, tr etc) Map the story in pictures on paper and write the blends you found that help tell the story.  Retell the story.

2.  Ask 5 W questions on small slips of paper and have students interview each other.

3.  Pick a scene (jungle).  Draw a picture by giving instructions using words like on, under, beside (The frog was on the lily pad).

4.  Pick a word, act th word, say the word (great with verbs)

5.  Write down word parts to contractions.  Say the contraction and have the kids race up to make the contraction (best in teams)

6.  Grab a ball or mat and work on direction words.  Have the child act it out and other students say what he or she is doing using a direction word.  (___ is under the mat).

7.  Hop the sentence.  Cut up paper forming a sentence.  Have teams race to make the sentence you say.  Each member must hop all papers to the end and sit down to win a point.

8.  Choose a Bible Story and use adjectives (describing words) to describe a character and create a work of art.

9.  For older kids make a Mad Lib by writing a short paragraph or story and erasing a few parts of speech before they get in there.  Make lists for each blank and vote on the one to use.  (Asking for noun dn they suggest paper, chair, table, and water bottle)

10.  Write words on paper and tape them to foreheads or backs.  Students try to guess by asking questions that can only be answered with yes or no.  (Does my animal have stripes?)

11.  About Me Bags with adjustments.  Have students draw three things they want the teacher to know about them, cut them up, and put them in a bag.  Have them practice by telling a partner.  Switch bags and have them tell the teacher what they learned about their partner.
