The new game that is sweeping the nation, pokemon go. I don’t know about where you are from, but EVERYONE is playing it here in Los Angeles. Santa Monica, Echo park, Griffith Observatory, everywhere and every person seems to be flooding these areas to “catch em all”.
Last night a group of us decided to venture around the city for a girls night. One of the places we went to was the Lacma Lights. When we started walking around, we met a 10 yer old boy who explained the game to us, he even let us walk around with him to catch one of the characters. The more I’ve ended up in places where it seems to be popular for people to play this game at, I’ve discovered something unique. We as humans have this nature to gravitate towards a fine line of a confused state. One minute we riot over race, want nothing to do with one another, get so wrapped up in politics we build up with so much hatred towards anyone who voices their opinions and are so quick to judge. Then on the other side of this confused line, we rally together all over the world building unity, becoming active, trying to find something that in reality, doesn’t actually exists. I don’t think we as people, even know what we want. We feel pulled in every direction except the direction of God. Think about it, if the G** is mentioned in schools, mentioned at work, an immediate wall of denying what is true, goes up.
I had this thought. What if instead of downloading a virtual reality app that sooner or later will grow old and the next best thing comes along, we downloaded the word of God. Sound cheesy? sure. But its true. Every place I’ve gone recently, I’ve noticed pokemon go spreads like a wild fire. What if when someone talked about Jesus, it spread like a wild fire? It created unity, it made us active, it made us want to catch ’em all, whatever that would mean in a biblical sense. Maybe that would mean to catch all of the lost souls that we want to come to heaven with us. Try to imagine instead of these Pokemon characters scattered all over the “hip” places, we had worship playing, prayer warriors gathered in these places people never expected Christians to go.
Now hear me out, I have nothing against this game, it has an interesting concept that is catchy to the eye. But why not take all this passion and joy that has revolutionized everyone’s thinking lately and put it towards God. Lets take all of this energy, take it to places we would have ever thought about going and share the gospel!
