Culture shock immediately sets in. I start to see my new environment and come to a clear understanding I am no longer in America and wont be for quite some time. But again.. I am okay with that. Flooded streets and houses, trash everywhere, bugs for days.. literally. I had realized I was stripped of all of my comforts. Things such as a comfy couch to lounge in, nice beach weather in Los Angeles, eat whatever I want (not rice and veggies). My brain has officially wrapped its mind around one conclusion and that is i have been taking all of my comforts back in the states for granted. Yes i am admitting to all who read this I am in for a serious heart change…I am okay with that.
I have become a chew toy for mosquitoes and spiders. Flushing toilet paper is out of the question. Quiet time isn’t jumping in my car for a long drive, its throwing in headphones in the middle of a full room. I tell you all of this because this is just a small part of what culture shock looks like for me but somehow I am learning to embrace it.
If these people here of Cambodia, can live with the simplest of things, walk in flooded waters not knowing what bacteria floats inside, eat the same 3 meals every single day , eat warm meat that sits out for days at a time, all with a smile o their faces then I can too. I am still learning, but in this time of learning God is showing me how to live more like the people around me and that is with the mind set of EMBRACE.
Ministry
What are we doing this month?
My team and I are living in a children’s home who are not yet orphans. We teach music classes.. well I do not haha if you know me you know I have no rhythm. We also teach English to different age students(that is one of my biggest joys!) And on top of going to the church here, we go to different villages and teach an play games with the children. Its a jam packed schedule and our team loves it. I am so thankful for the community of my team and this journey we are on this month. This ministry has such a heart for Jesus and kids and we get to play a small part of that which is just so incredible.
