We went hiking this morning to a lovely waterfall.  There were six of us ladies, and on the way back down the mountain it struck me how each of us traveled differently. It reminded me of how everybody travels life differently as well.
As Christians we all have the same general destination, yet God takes us on different paths. When our paths do merge that doesn’t  mean that we will see the same things or see them the same way.
Some people see the path as a way to get to the destination, whether that be a waterfall or heaven. For me I see the path as a journey to be had. An adventure to be taken. The goal being kept in mind yet the surroundings still enjoyed. I, often, like to move a little more slowly or even stop along the way to soak in a scene or moment.
There are times along the way that I will want to move a little more quickly. Like this morning when Katia and I realized the large spider we were poking was actually not dead, or when times in life get scary or difficult. It is tempting to want to hurry past those. In life those are probably the moments I should take some time through, because they tend to be the ones I learn from. (The moment on the path not so much. I learned not to poke large spiders….or did I? That’s another story.)
Not all paths are smooth and firm, there are stones to trip over and slick places to stumble through. I may fall. I may get hurt. But, I’ll not stay there because there is too much to see and somewhere to be.
Simple things along this path stood out to me and made me smile. Whether it was a butterfly, flowers, a fallen branch turned door, moss, or a tree that we thought might be a kind of cotton it was a joy to admire. Similarly, it is the simple things in this life that bring me the most joy. Sometimes I need my friends/squadmates to help point those out in both places, and I love that we can share in each other’s joys.
