As some of you may remember, back in Lesotho (my very first month on the race), I blogged about a little girl named “Hope”. If you missed that blog, you can find it here http://brookeclevenger.theworldrace.org/post/hope-amidst-suffering
I gave you a brief glimpse into Hope’s story. Introducing you the best I could to the quiet little presence that accompanied us on our daily village visits in Lesotho and ultimately broke our hearts.
Sadly, we left Lesotho before my team and I could see anything more come of Hope and her family. But thankfully, we had wonderful hosts, Pieter and Keila, month one that loved the people of the Malealea Valley so beautifully that as soon as they met Hope, they fell head over heels in love with her. Before we left Lesotho we asked Pieter to keep us up to date on Hope and her family. They promised us that they would continue to check in on Hope and do whatever they could to help her.
A few months back, Pieter messaged one of my teammates and shared an update on Hope.
Hope’s real name, Nthabeleng, translates to “happiness” and in the picture he included (pictured below) her face shows that radiant smile we fought so hard for but rarely saw.
Hope and her family have continued going to church and that in itself is a praise! Pieter and Keila, have also been able to make sure Hope has received meals, a teddy bear, and a blanket. They also have enrolled her at the school they have on base!
God’s love for us is sempiternal, everlasting and unchanging, even when our situations seem bleak, He never abandons us. God maintains hope within us as a promise for what He has to come in our lives. No matter the situation, as long as we keep our eyes fixed on Him and trust in Him, He will move mountains.
Hope’s story is a testament to God’s never-failing love. Finding God has changed their lives drastically. Hope is a remarkable little girl and I am so grateful for the opportunity to introduce her Pieter and Keila and the boys so that they can work in her life as well as in the lives of her family.
Continue praying for Hope and her family. Pray that their hearts be opened and they continue to receive God and all that He has for their lives. That the redemption God has brought is used to glorify His name.
Also keep Pieter and Keila and their family in your prayers as they continue doing God’s work in the Malealea Valley. It’s people like Pieter and Keila that make our journey possible. The contacts that we have in each country are a permanent resource for the people, because they have committed their lives to God’s calling for their lives it makes us possible to come walk alongside of them for a month and see God move.
