Thin space. This is a concept described by the Celtics that I recently learned in my time here at Maranatha House of Prayer. Simply put, it means that there are some places, natural settings, or areas that for lack of distraction or some reason, seem to have a very thin veil between Heaven and Earth, making God seem so close and tangible, usually everyone can feel it in the space. This concept not only opened my mind to many past, present, and future experiences, it also describes what this place is for me and my team. There is such a nearness of the Holy Spirit here, it is so tangible.
The beauty of this place and how much we are absorbing and learning daily is somewhat overwhelming. We realize what a privilege it is to rise early, just to spend more time in the Lord’s presence and stay up late to write or talk about it. Psalm 51 has spoken greatly of this, “Restore unto me, the joy of my salvation, and renew a right spirit within me.” The joy I found upon first accepting salvation is being restored and a right spirit is being renewed.
“To pray is to change”-Richard Foster. We all came on this journey wanting to change in big or small ways. One thing we have already learned here and are expectant to see the fruit of, is that it will not necessarily be the hard manual labor or singing of songs that will change us, it will be prayer and what flows out of that. Since arriving we have experienced many new and different ways to pray and will soon be leading retreats with students using these prayers. We will even attempt to pray 24 hours during the retreat in shifts for the 24-7 prayer movement in the prayer yurt (a tent). I realize that these prayers, this movement, and change are possible anywhere and with anyone. Where is your thin space? God does not desire perfect prayers, He just desires to talk with you.
Maranatha means “come quickly, Lord Jesus” and that is the cry of my heart from this sacred thin space here on the beautiful mountain top of Pecsavard, Hungary. It can be the cry of your heart from anywhere in any circumstance.
