Gaining weight on the World Race? Something many of the girls fear after hearing stories. Not so for our team, the teens in Bulgaria showed us plenty of ways to keep our rears in gear. We are on a fairly small camp area with beautiful surrounding but not ideal weather or terrain for typical running or exercising. That doesn’t mean you can’t play volleyball, soccer, slip-n-slide, jump rope, zipline, and play lots of fun really made-up games. Stairs, backpacks, and constant sweating are really paying off. More food than I’ve ever eaten, afternoon chocolate and bread, and surprise ice cream is not!
<–this is also how we did our laundry!
Of course, watching our weight is not what this is about, we are just enjoying all of the fun activities that these teens have created to be active around here. Today we had a World Cup soccer game- Americans vs. Bulgarians. Being an all girls team, I’m sure they had no fear. After playing, never well I’ll say, for so many years on teams and just for fun, I have never scored a goal, until today! Plus U.S. won.

The simple pleasures are always a wake up call for me when I leave the comforts of the U.S. Where we need video games, internet, and organized clubs and sports to enjoy ourselves, I enjoy seeing kids and teens create so much fun out of a rope, a ball, or just their imaginations. We have witnessed concerts, plays, and performances nightly from these teens’ creativity.
