“Let We Go” is a common phrase we hear from our contact, Pastor Ivan, whenever we head somewhere. This, amongst many other things, will be missed as we leave Bulgaria and head to Hungary. On a crazy adventure through Bulgaria today, I had time to reflect on what I have learned and will be carrying with me as we go on to our third country.
The overall lesson God has been teaching me is best said through a quote from Purpose Driven Life, “Great Opportunities may come once in a lifetime, but small ones surround us every day.” I headed out on the World Race with expectations of great opportunity and big adventure. I know that this is still part of the journey and in God’s plan during the next 10 months, but I have learned in Bulgaria that there are small opportunities to love, praise, and learn everywhere that are easily missed when we are so focused on the BIG things.
I have had my greatest moments of rejoicing through having conversations with new friends and teammates, listening to 90s worship music while going ridiculously fast down bumpy roads, or meeting a stranger who doesn’t speak any English yet finding a way to communicate for thirty minutes.
I have really wrestled with not “doing” enough so far on the trip. God has really put peace in my heart that “doing” is so different than what my human mind perceives. As a team, we have realized that ministry and serving is everywhere you go and for everyone you meet. It is not meant to be an organized thing, it is a mind and heartset that should be constant. I can see in hindsight that this month was the perfect beginning for my prideful heart. God has begun to give us His eyes for His people and allowed us to experience joy through so many small and big ways.
Slava na Boga! (Praise the Lord)
