Sitting through mass is something I can honestly say I didn’t think I would ever do again after 6 years of Catholic school, yet Wednesday night I sat through a Hungarian mass that blessed me more than those 6 years.  The actual mass was not so much a blessing as a service in another language we sat through while trying to not get attacked by bats in the church.  That’s right, bats! A whole bunch just flying around the church.
Some students who came to Maranatha were from the charismatic Catholic group meeting after the mass and they were having a healing service that night.  This is what blessed us.

First, it was the music.  While it was all Hungarian, there were a couple of songs we recognized, namely “Let it Rain”.  This song has been very important to our team this month.  God has used it in many moments to speak to us, sometimes in such surprising times.  After the short service, we had a time to just soak- listen to God and then be prayed over by some of the leaders.  As I sat there, I got overwhelmed by homesickness and loneliness.  Out of nowhere, God reminded me of Psalms 67:6, “God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing…”  This verse has spoken to me at different times in my life but right now it speaks for my team, that He has placed me in this family and I am not alone, no matter the circumstances.

I eventually went up to be prayed for and our interpreting friend was there to tell me what was being prayed over me.  Many things were said but what really touched me was a verse, Matthew 10:25, “It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master…”  being spoken over me.  It was exactly what I needed to hear because right now I am struggling so much with Christ being enough.  I desire so much and wish to take on the attitude of the disciples where it was enough to just be like Christ.  While this was being prayed over me, guess what song was being played? “Let It Rain”.  Another moment of rain for me, which made it all the sweeter.
