When I first signed up for the World
Race I started telling people about my race route. One of the first
things they would ask was why New Zealand, isn’t that a first world
country? What are you going to do there?
We have been here only 2 weeks and I am
now realizing what God is teaching me. It’s pretty much what He has
been drilling into me since my first trip to Africa. IT”S NOT
ABOUT YOU!!!!
I too grew up in a first world country
not wanting for much. I grew up with everything pretty much handed
to me and a family who loves me and would do and does do anything for
me.
So, what God has been telling me is
that everyone, everywhere needs Him. When you grow up in a culture
where you get your worldly needs met it usually means that your
spiritual needs are being ignored like in the U.S., that is what I
have found here and in my own life. Because most people can provide
for themselves food, shelter and their basic needs they are not
forced to rely on God the way people in a third world country may
have to.
For me, God is saying give up control,
rely on me and I will be there. Get over yourself because this life
is not about you, it’s about ME. The sooner I realize that the
better off I will be. I want my life to be a life lived for
something bigger than myself. I know what that is and now I have to
put it into practice and for me that is something I have to strive
for everyday because I grew up in the culture of do what you can to
get to the top, become the best and make as much money as possible
and save everything so I can have the easy life. I don’t want the
easy life I want a sacrificial life that shows Gods glory.
WHAT DO YOU WANT?????
Have
you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow
weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the
faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths
shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but
they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall
mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
40:28-31
