Our team has had the blessing of visiting a place called Mehayo. It is an organization in Morogoro where children who are mentally handicapped live. They are completely self sustainable, with a a farm, pigs, turkeys and chickens. The kids even help to take care of these things.
We have been able to visit them a few times since being here. The times we went most of them were on holiday but there were a few there whose parents did not come and get them. Which is completely heartbreaking. However God works in amazing ways and put us there just when we needed to be. So while we can’t compare to their parents we were able to make them smile a couple of days while we were there.

It does make me think about how good God is. In the midst of sadness, if we look in the right places God can bring us joy. All we have to do is look toward Him. And trust me I know that it’s not the easiest thing to do but when I try to fight it and get down on myself or a situation, God always brings me back. He did not send Jesus for us to live a life of sorrow and regret but to live as people who are free. No shame, no condemnation. To live a life full of joy, real joy that comes from Him. Joy that’s not fleeting but that’s everlasting. Joy that we can have, in any situation, if we truly believe what the bible says. That God is working all things for the good of those who love Him, and trust in that fact.
One reason I love Africa so much is the joy the people have here. Some of them are living in terrible situations and yet some how they keep the joy of the Lord and remain in Him.
