I haven’t been involved with very many medical missions but the ones I have been to are always hard.  To see people sick is tough and even more so when there are things you can do so easily if only they had access to a doctor and the money to pay for it.
This past Saturday was no different.  We got up early and headed into the community to set up.  We had 3 nurses and 2 dentists.  We saw patients for most of the morning and it was typical stuff that they see here.  Children with a bad cough, sores on their body due to lack of cleanliness and tiny children with worms.  These things can all be treated pretty easily with the right medications.  Then a women named Jocelyn came and brought her 1 month old son Jason.
Jocelyn and Jason came closer to the end of our mission.  Jason has a cleft palette and has a hard time eating.  He can suck from the bottle but it’s very slow and hard for him.  Because of this he is extremely malnourished, he is 5 pounds.  His mother is also malnourished just because of the situation she is living in.  It is very hard for her to provide food for her family much less herself.  We were heartbroken as soon as Jocelyn unwrapped Jason.  It hit all of us there pretty hard.  He is beautiful and God has his life in the palm of his hands. All of us as a team knew we had to do something for this family.  We prayed over him, for God to give peace in his life and a way for him to get help. Then Christine felt led to share the Gospel with his mother, as Christine was talking and crying while sharing and Jocelyn was crying along with everyone in the circle as Jocelyn accepted Christ into her life.  Since that day, anytime we had a bible study or church service, she was there.
Thanks to all the hard work of my team and Katie Swan, who is on the M-squad, there is someone willing to do the surgery for free.  Someone who read one of Katie’s blogs and passed the information on.  The organization is called Operation Smile and they are going to do it all free of charge.
God is so amazing!! The way He links things together to work out when we can’t see it is incredible.  Please keep this family in your prayers as they move toward the surgery.  I don’t have an exact date yet but hopefully soon.
Thanks for all your prayers.
Much Love
