Haiti

*Haiti is the only my only repeat country for my 11 month journey. I went there with Cox College on a medical mission trip and fell in love with the people there. I’m so excited to visit again. ****Housing accommodations in Haiti for a previous team: Tents with an oceanfront view. I can definitely handle that!
1. Location– Caribbean, western 1/3 of the island of Hispaniola, between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, west of the Dominican Republic. Capital is Port-Au-Prince.
2. Language– French is the official language and Haitian Creole very common but not yet legally legislated as an official language.
3. Religion- 80% Roman Catholic
4. Trade- Agriculture, Some industry such as textile and sugar refining.
5. Struggles– Poverty, corruption, vulnerability to natural disasters, and low levels of education. Sex trafficking and child labor. Women and children living in camps for internally displaced people are at increased risk of sex trafficking and forced labor.
