It’s been a great month in Malawi. Our team has finished strong and are looking for to some much needed rest and debriefing of our experience. And now it’s over.
My race started with a focus on numbers. I shared the cost that needed to be raised, how many countries I would be visiting and how much money a day I’d be living on. I’d like to end with a re-cap of numbers throughout my Race.
Throughout my World Race Journey…..
I visited a total of 11 countries. (13 if you count driving through and layovers)
I flew on 8 different airplanes, I have 6 more to go.
And 184 hours on public charter buses, 101 of those hours being African buses. That’s over a week of my life sitting on a bus.
My backpack weighed an average of 41 pounds, holding all of my belongings for the eleven months.
There are 45 members of “B Squad,” of which I was on a team with 13 of them at different times.
I broke down in tears approximately 3 times.
Churches, friends and family provided $15,000 of financial support for my journey.
I was 23 years old throughout my entire Race.
I did Insanity a total of 40 days and ran an estimated 40 miles, but still managed to gain 10 pounds.
Each person was given a budget of $1.25 per meal.
The price of a fresh banana-avacado-carrot smoothie in Vietnam was a mere $0.50
… the same price as an authentic plate of Pad Thai in Thailand.
However, a tall chai tea latte from Starbucks was $4.00 in the airport.
I spent $7.00 for a 1-hour, full body massage in Viet Nam.
Somehow I managed to only shave my legs 1 time in Kenya.
I pond washed my hair 4 times in Cambodia.
I relaxed on 8 different beaches, watching the sunset over 3 different seas.
I can now count to ten in 4 different languages.
I can say hello in 9 different languages.
I’ve been called “mzungu” (“white person”) an estimated 2,102 times.
Nearly 743 African children have received a high-five from me
I made 12 babies cry because of my skin color.
Today was the 318th day of my World Race journey.
There have been many times on this trip where it has been hard not to count the days I’ve had left. And other times, I couldn’t figure out where I had lost days, I was having such a blast. In the past 11 months, I have shared the Gospel and my life with friends and strangers. I have been immeasurably refined as a result. The Lord has done numerous great works, in and through me. I can’t believe that He would choose me. I wouldn’t have. But He knew what people would need from me and what I would need from them. So I praise him for this journey and this season, which is coming to a close too quickly and not fast enough.
Thanks for all your love, prayers and support.
