As I was reading my devotional on Thursday these words struck me. “Words whether positive or negative, have a lasting impact.” I think as a human sometimes we don’t realize that a number of us speak before we think. It is unfortunate because most times we hurt others with our words and before we know that it’s too late to take back what we said.

James 1:19-20 (ESV) states ” know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear; slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”

Personally I struggle with this concept. When I get frustrated or upset I just speak and don’t think about it first. I get so upset with myself afterwards and I shut down because I know what God expects of me.

For the past two days I’ve been challenge myself to create James 1:19-20 mindset. I thought I’d share it with all of you. I’m asking you to contribute to one of the following:

1.) help hold me accountable for the next 30 days as I do this challenge. Pay attention to how I act with others, my post on Facebook etc…

2.) I challenge you for the next 30 days to take part in challenge with me. I know that a number of people could benefit from taking part in this.

3.) Encourage me!! This is going to be something that’s really hard for me and encouragement for this would really really really help.

I believe God is requiring me to reach more towards righteousness and this is just another stepping stone in the process. If you accept the challenge comment with “challenge accepted.” I will gladly hold you accountable as well.
