I’m not sure where you come from or what you have been through. I can only share with you the things that I have experiened and what the Lord has taught me through them. Freedom has been an underlying theme in my life over the course of this past year. The Lord has been teaching me what it looks like to walk in His freedom, how to be free from labels that people have placed on me, and how to share my freedom in order for others to be prompted to walk in their freedom!! Everywhere I look there is a constant reminder of freedom. In my life I’ve always been told what I can not do or what I will not be able to do. If you have experienced the same thing, you know that it is not easy when people limit what you will do in life. I can give you a number of examples of this in my own life, however, this blog is not about all that. This blog is about a PEACE– better yet, a PIECE called freedom .

MUSIC is my life. If you know me, you know that about me. I constantly walk around with an internal boom box playing in my head. It might be 90’s greatest hits, Christian music, instrumentals of live music, Beethoven & Bach, some good ole’ rhythm & blues, or Shania Twain. Music is my escape, which can be a good thing, but also a bad thing. It is a way that I can share my emotion and really express the way that I am feeling. I learned to play the clarinet when I was in middle and high school, however I wanted to play a musical instrument that was “cool” in my eyes. The clarinet was most definitely NOT cool! I wanted to learn to play the drums or the guitar. However, it was a dream that had to quickly dwindle.

So you can imagine the feeling that I felt when the Lord told me this past November that I would learn to play the guitar on the race. I have listened to so many people who have told me that I would never be able to play it, among a number of other things, that when the Lord told me that I didn’t believe it. In January I had 2 awesome men on my team who could play the guitar, but I only experimented with them a handful of times. The second team I was placed on, one of the girls played guitar, but after tragic surgery she went home. So what now? Month 9 for our squad was an all squad month and I decided that this was the month that I was going to buckle down and learn how to play the guitar. I practiced 5 times a week for an hour and had an awesome teacher ( shout out to Lyndsey). Guess what? Now I can play the guitar! One of my squadmates blessed me with a guitar at the end of our Month 9. Not only can I play the guitar, but I actually own my very 1st guitar!

What’s the point of this blog?? Well to share with you an accomplishment that the Lord has used in my life to bring me joy and peace. Meet a peace (piece) called freedom.

The Lord knew that this guitar was going to teach me more than just how to play. The Lord has taught me what discipline and dedication looks like through this guitar. He has taught me an intimacy that I share with Him when I play the guitar alone, just me and Him. He Has taught me that I can do all things through Him.

I want you to remember to never allow others to dictate what you can do! Yes the Lord uses people to keep you grounded, but if you hear it from the Lord than why are you allowing others to speak against Him. Philippians 4:13 states “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” YOU CAN DO ALL THINGS!!! When I say this verse to people I like to add “if it is in God’s will.” You can’t just walk around saying you can DO ALL THINGS like rob a bank. That is definitely not in God’s will. Stand on His promises. Stand on the words that He speaks to you! Find the freedom that He has for you.
