Just Being You

There’s power in just being you. God made you. You’re not like anyone else. Living in community on the race as a team, we quickly discover that everyone brings something different to the table.

This month, some of our gifts that have shined are:
Lindsey brings out her gift of sharing and her words of encouragement.
Melody brings out her gift of shepherding and music.
Ashley brings out her gift of eloquent writing and music.
Jenna brings out her gift of communication and deep heart talks.
Megan brings out her gift of secretarial services and keeps us accountable to our goals.

We’ve seen how important it is to be ourselves and be who we are. God has made everyone unique and has a special role for each person to play. When we try and be like someone else because we think their gifts are better than ours, we miss out on the part that God has planned for us. A piece of the story is missing because your role isn’t being played.

During our ministry this month, we’ve all had to step into our roles and even expand on what we’re not so great at doing. Leading singing and actions, games, colouring, English lessons and Bible stories are what has been required of this month’s ministry. But on top of what’s been asked of us, we’ve found ways in which to reach out to other people by just being us. Some have connected with the women by trying to learn Khmer to tell them that the food they cook for us is delicious, some have painted nails with the girls, some have played card games with the boys, and some have hugged a lonely grandmother and made her feel loved.

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.” 1 Corinthians 12: 4-7

“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.” Romans 12: 4-6a
