I Am A Child Of God

A week in Namibia was all we needed to fall in love with the country and its people. A huge part of why I loved Namibia was that God was in it all and it was only because of Him that we made it there. Our contacts became our family, as well as the church body they were a part of. Everyone welcomed us in as daughters. Back in Botswana during one of our team prayer times about going or not, I had a vision of us running into Steve and Karrie’s (our contacts’) arms as if they were our parents. That vision was fulfilled!

VBS type events, braais, planning and dinners out, were what kept us busy during that week. A few months back, our host started visiting the dump and a location we called the tin shacks weekly to share a Bible story with the children and give them a snack. We split into two groups and visited our ministry site every day that week. I was placed at the tin shacks. We led the kids in singing, shared a message with them, brought along a soccer ball to play with, made a craft and handed out snack. We decided to teach them a Bible verse and have a motto for the week for them to memorize. “I am a child of God” was the motto, and “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. 1 John 3:1” was the memory verse for the week.

Throughout the week our topics were “I am unique”, “I am loved”, ” I am chosen”. On our last day we focused on being a child of the King and declared that everyone was either a prince or a princess. For the craft we made paper crowns with “I am a child of the King” written on it. The children were so proud of what they made and wore them proudly. A simple craft but a significant message. Teaching the children about this was good for ourselves as well. It was a great reminder that we also are unique, we are loved, we have been chosen and we are sons and daughters of the King! Declare it over yourself and believe it.
