Early in the beginning of my fundraising journey, God made a promise to me. He promised that there was going to be $1000 for every major event that was put on as a fundraiser. All I had to do was act in faith and He would bring the people. I am learning to silence other things in my life and to dial in and fine tune myself to recognize that still small voice as my homie upstairs. It’s like He says in the bible in Psalms 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God”. A little zip of the lip and opening of the ears and soul can go a long way sometimes.
There have been a few fundraiser events that have had results that are pretty awesome (thanks to those who have attended and supported me!). I had a BBQ event, a yard sale, a turkey dinner, and a NYE cab service which were my main fundraisers. The first three all brought in over $1000 each. The fourth left me feeling a little let down in regards to the promise I had thought I heard. Don’t get me wrong – it went amazingly and raised $750 dollars but I felt my shoulders drop as I added the totals for the final time. I started to doubt and thought maybe I was mistaken in what I thought I had heard. Regardless, it was a good chunk of change that a good friend helped me to raise and I was beyond thankful and humbled by it. When I finally got out of bed on Jan 1st, my dad had some news for me. A friend of his had made a call and said he wanted to drop by and leave $300 towards my trip. BOOM! There’s that thousand dollar promise being fulfilled. The money part is great and definitely needed but I was even more in awe of the confirmation that I had in fact heard a promise and it was in fact being honoured. It may not have been the way that I thought it should have come in, but it still came in above and beyond what was promised.
In regards to fundraising, I am waiting for a few cheques to clear but am in the $12 300 range. Less than 4K to go! I am also on my way to North Carolina to meet my team mates and head to Atlanta for launch. It has been a whirlwind and will continue to be. Please pray for us over this next week and a bit especially. We will be heading to the Dominican Republic to kick start this journey and want a smooth transition with our first ministry contact. I will miss everyone at home but am pumped to be heading out on this crazy journey. If you miss me, share a smile with someone in celebration of the good that is going on through my squad and team instead of dwelling on the sad thoughts – after all it is only 11 months!
Teaser alert: I will be posting a blog over the next few weeks with the answering of the question I’m sure a few of you are wondering: Why? Why the change in you? Why are you going? Why now? So keep posted and keep me accountable to writing that one as it will be a toughy.
