Seeking approval of man over approval of God is exhausting. Taking others negative views of me as part of my identity has lead to much pain and has left me operating out of how others see me vs how God sees me.
This past week the Lord pointed out a cool thing to me about Moses and many other characters in the Bible. Moses was a “nobody” in people’s eyes and a murder. He fled to the dessert where God met with him through a burning bush. God told him that he would be the one to lead the Israelite out of Egypt and set Gods people free from slavery. Moses, when he first heard this said that he could never do what God was calling him to and almost walked away. He believed he was incapable. God told him he was capable and that God would be with him. Moses had a choice at that point. He could chose to believe what God said about him and that God was all powerful and could do what he said or he could have chosen to believe what he thought about himself. (That he was insufficient for the job, unworthy of his calling, that God was not all powerful etc). He chose to believe what God said about him and was able to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. He chose to believe what God said about him over what others said about him and even over what he had thought about himself. He chose to believe that God could and would do what He said. Because Moses chose to believe God, he was able to walk with confidence and authority throughout the process of getting God’s people outta Egypt. If he had chosen to care more about what he thought about himself or had valued what others said about him more than what God had said about him he wouldn’t have been able to walk in the calling God had on his life.
Like Moses I have been faced with a choice “Will you choose to value what God says about you over what yourself or others think about you?” It’s a choice I face daily, hourly and by the second. I get to chose to walk in the true identity the Lord has given me 🙂 honestly it’s not easy, but it’s worth it! He knit me together in my mothers womb and has given me a calling to walk in. He has done the same for you. Ask Him what He thinks about you and then listen and write down what you hear. Look into what the Bible says about you. Do ya know that God has more thoughts about us than there are grains of sand?
