Hi! My name is Sarah and this is my story-

Last Sunday an oddly tall lady sat next to me. She was a stranger to our church but she sat in the front, right next to me. Long blonde curls swayed back and forth as we sang our worship songs in Burmese. It’s obvious that she doesn’t know our language because she’s white and only sang when we sang our English songs. She sang really loud.
She interested me. Why were her eyes so blue? Why was she here? Why does she keep smiling at me?
So I scooted closer and closer to her.
She had an interesting scent. And she keeps on smiling.
Then she opened her hand that was closest to me. Did she want me to hold her hand? Why would she want to hold my hand?
I didn’t know what to do. I am an orphan. I don’t have a mom. I don’t have a dad.

I looked at the open hand, looked at her, she raised her eyebrows at me and smiled, again.

So, I placed my hand in hers.

Even though my hand was engulfed by her hand, it was a perfect fit.
I liked how she bounced our hands to the beat of the music. I liked how she squeezed my hand when we said amen. I liked this oddly tall lady.

Everyday this week I searched for her. Some days we played volleyball together. We made a great team! Other days our paths crossed when I was walking home from school and she was running. I made sure to block her path so I could get a hug from her.

Tonight we had a party for just girls…and she was there! I sat right next to her!

During the Bible lesson, we read from her Bible together. She sadly wasn’t the person who washed my feet, but her friend did. She was also very nice. After feet washing, we danced together. She is a funny dancer! Then I convinced her to paint my nails red. I wanted to teach her a hand clap, I got some of my freshly painted red nail polish on her hand. Oh well, we had fun! At the end of the night we walked back home together. I made sure to say “See you tomorrow!” when she said goodnight to me.

I like this oddly tall lady!
