Ok, so I’ve been here in Costa Rica for 2 1/2 weeks now and there hasn’t been a day where rice & beans aren’t on the menu. I Love food with my whole heart, (especially carbs aka rice), but when you have a day where you literally have beans and rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you’d almost do anything not to eat lol! The best part is, I went to subway to get normal food, and I swear to y’all the man in front of me ordered beans and rice on bread. How the actual heck? In this experience though, God showed me something. He said, “Brittany, you didn’t come here to be comfortable and eat all the food you’re used to.” I know this sounds super silly, but when you really think about it, us as christians forget how blessed we are with even the smallest things. I am 10 times more thankful for chick fil a and every other restaurant back home! The crazy thing is, it’s so normal for them to eat beans and rice everyday, but me eating chick fil a all the time would be so weird to them & normal to us.
We have been very blessed with our cook named xinia(sinya), who cooks for us all week. She makes the most amazing homemade food that’s so fresh! The first week when I saw that beans and rice was so normal to add to your normal dish, I didn’t understand. The more I’m getting used to this beautiful culture, the more I’m really truly understating it. My new rice belly and I are starting to love the culture and yes, The beans and rice!
