Sorry for the delayed update. I am currently on the beach of Lake Malawi, but wanted to first inform you of the wonderful month I spent in Zambia.
My team saw 56 hours worth of Zambia’s countryside from the windows of African buses during our travel days. The rides were long, but beautiful with lush mountainous landscape to fill the view.
Since we were the Unsung Heroes team, we had the opportunity to spend the month traveling around Zambia, which included stops in Lusaka, Kitwe, Livingston, and Chongwe connecting with different people who all had the same goal. Kingdom impact. In Lusaka we met Whitney, who wants to empower and disciple compound schoolteachers, the staff of the Special Hope Network who teaches children with intellectual disabilities and we visited Chikumbuso, a school for orphans, which is partly supported with the sales of bags which are crocheted by compound widows.
In Kitwe my team was showered with hospitality. We were cooked two homemade meals and given bunk beds to sleep in. We met Charles, who started a prison ministry. Two Journeymen, Kayla and Alyssa, who are spending two years in Zambia to disciple the local college students. We got to sit in on one of their Bible studies while we were there. The girls introduced us to the Kims, who have been missionaries in that area for over 10 years. We visited a school for orphans called Chandi. They are working toward housing 240 orphans.
In Livingston my team got to rest and regroup. I got to check off seeing one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls. Some team members and I went on a make shift safari where we saw giraffes, zebras, monkeys and impalas. Here’s a free tip: Don’t get too close to the Zebras or you’ll get a hoof to the head. I had a close call.
In Chongwe we stayed with Jeff, Heidi and their 4 kids. Again we were shown wonderful hospitality from this missionary family. Jeff and Heidi are living in Zambia with hopes to disciple the local people. They are investing in many local mission organizations including a bible college and orphanage school. The last place we visited was the Esther School. I was so excited to check out the school because I knew it had been started by the GEMS organization. I was a GEM from 1st through 8h grade, and was a counselor briefly before I left on the race. We had a great time playing with the students and hearing the heart of the school from its staff.
The month flew by and my team was continually amazed by the Lord’s provision for us. We started off not having anyone expecting us in Zambia and ended up having friends all over the Country.
Can’t wait to have a spare minute to tell you about everything that’s going on in Malawi!
Thanks for your continued prayers.
