So I’m back on the field. You can’t believe it? Me either. Since arriving in Peru, I have been having moments where I am shocked by the fact that I get to be on the race again. Some of those moments are when I’m brushing my teeth and can’t use the water or when I try to communicate and realize how little Spanish I really know. But most of the moments are filled with so much appreciation to be back at it again. It has been a huge blessing to see the continued growth from the end of my original Race in 2014 until now. Fear held me back from many opportunities on my first race, but I’m not going to let it keep me from seeing the Kingdom come this time. I want to boldly pray for people and try to speak the language. I want to try the street food and see the sites. And so far I have. I’ve seen people healed already and I’ve made more connections with my broken Spanish skills. It is a privilege to get to do this again and to show B-Squad that taking the risk of praying over people or truly letting people in is worth it.
In honor of it being day 20 on the field I’m going to share 20 moments I don’t want to forget:
- Trying my first street churro.
- Worshiping with two teams on our first full day.
- Hearing the testimonies of B-Squad.
- Holding a baby at a center for kids with aids.
- Playing an intense game of Nertz
- Being invited into the homes of the church members. They made us lunch everyday.
- Breaking a bench on the bus.
- Praying over a girl from youth group. Trusting the Holy Spirit to break down the language barrier.
- Preforming a dance on a busy street corner.
- Finding out one of my best friends is engaged!
- Inviting people to church and seeing them show up.
- Having a 10-minute conversation in Spanish.
- Leg wrestling.
- When a dog walked with me the whole way to the beach.
- Jumping rope in a rough part of Lima.
- Making friends with a 6 year old. She gave me her bracelet.
- Praying over a 14 year old strung out on drugs.
- Hiking and seeing Machu Picchu.
- Running to the beach in the morning.
- Praying for healing in the center of Lima.
