On the race there can be days that are packed with ministry assignments or times when there is not much scheduled to do. But no matter the country or host it seems they have a solution to the empty days—prayer walking. It ‘s simple, but it’s also a very impactful way to claim the Kingdom.
In Mongolia we did a prayer walk as a team one day on the way church. We took turns praying for the families we were staying with, the nomadic church and the people living in the countryside. We asked for the presence of God to be active in the hills. It was simple activity, but it proved fruitful. A couple days later we were swapping stories and encouragements with our host families and one of the men shared his observation as he sold milk in the countryside one day, as he drove the place felt different to him. He said the presence of God seemed active throughout the hills. He also told us about how everyone had heard or seen the 8 white people staying in tents and wondered why we had come. This gave him a great opportunity to share about how we love Jesus and came to support the nomadic church.
“Your kingdom come, your will be done”
Prayer walking is an essential part of our ministry this month as we work in the bars, which make up the red light district of Chiang Mai. If someone is stepping foot in the bars to do ministry then she must prayer walk the area before hand. Every team who has works with Lighthouse in Action before us has done the same thing and every team after us will follow suit. We are lining the district with hope, God’s presence and cleansing as we walk. The teams receive direction and vision for their night ministry or for future of this area of Chiang Mai. God has used the prayer walks as an invitation for him to show teams visions of the red light district becoming an active church. As we walk through bar street I believe darkness is being worn down and the foundation of the church is being laid.
The wonderful thing about prayer walking is that you can do it anywhere and everywhere. So I’d challenge you to start prayer walking your neighborhood, or the area around your church. Take your dog on a walk, or take a stroll around the block to walk off dinner, but as you do it start claiming your neighbors, the streets you drive or the park you take your kids to play at for the Kingdom. Ask God to give you opportunities to share the Good News, and get ready to see a change in your community.
I’m looking forward to some follow up stories from your walks 🙂
