Breaking the silence:

It’s been quite a few months since I became an official world racer, and since then I have been scared silly to start blogging. But I’ve realized it’s time for me to break the silence, and share.

From the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks:

After graduating from college in May, I was faced the reality of growing up and having to work full time (a reality which scared me even more than blogging). During this time I was asked the only question it seems people propose to recent grads, “So, what’s next?” I was clueless. I had no idea what was next, but I found myself time after time answering, “I don’t know, maybe I’ll go on the World Race.” And then thinking, “WHAT?!?! Where did that come from?!” Every time it slipped out of my mouth I was met with encouragement. People actually thought I could survive and thrive through this experience?!? Their enthusiasm fueled me into checking out www.theworldrace.org and seeing what The World Race was all about.

I was greeted by a banner singing the same anthem I had been since graduation, “there is more to life than the 9-5.” Boom, sign me up.

Within a couple of weeks I was all set up with a route and a squad. It wasn’t until all this was set in place that I realized exactly how God had used my own voice to call me. It reminded me of the passage in Luke, which says, “from the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” The Lord used the outbursts of my mouth to reveal what my heart desired for the next chapter in my life. The desire to be a bit wild, see the world and experience The Kingdom in a new way. All of which can be lived out through The World Race.

I never would have known the cry of my heart without it slipping from my lips the way it had. Granted, it took me 6 or so times of saying it to actually hear, but it showed me that when the heart yearns for what God wants He allows its nudging to be persistent and even lets the heart have a voice.

My hope is that this blog will be just that; a voice to my heart. I have already been so blessed by following this desire, and I haven’t even left the country. If you’re willing to journey with, I believe The Lord intends to bless you through it as well. My prayer is that as my squad and I live out the next year your eyes will be opened to the here and now Kingdom and the active role our God has in it!

Hold on tight, here’s where we’re headed:

Zambia, Malawi, Estonia, Latvia Lithuania,

China, Mongolia, Thailand, Cambodia,

Vietnam and Nepal.
