So I am not sure how many of you have ever heard of or watched The Simple Life, but my sophomore year of college my roommate, Nicole, and I watched the first and second seasons of The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie (for Halloween that year we even dressed as them…but I digress) anyway, if you have any concept of that television show…it was similar to how we were living this past month.
No we aren’t millionaires with toy dogs and attitude problems…but we definitely weren’t banking on doing the kind of work that we ended up doing…from shoveling dirt, rocks, concrete, gravel, sand, carrying all of those things in wheelbarrows and buckets, putting sunflower seeds in big sacks to be stored as sheep feed for the winter, painting, varnishing, staining, mixing and hauling concrete, cutting down corn stalks with hatchets and scythes…then piling the corn stalks into a huge pile for winter storage. It was a month of hard labor. But it was also a month of rest and blessings from God. On the days we worked the hardest we were often with blessed with a rainy day soon after where we stayed mostly in the house. On those days we rested predominantly, and we had a lot of time to read our Bibles and spend in prayer. I have never really understood what it meant to find my rest in God, but I experienced it this past month. Being loved on by my team and my host family and just immersing myself in God’s truths, committing and recommitting verses and Scripture to memory…such a blessing!!
I lived the country/simple life. I saw God in the work and nature surrounding me. I completely understand the parable of the weeds…but I’ll save that story for another blog 😉
Thanks for the wait, I’ve had ~1 hour of internet/week. I will be getting a few more blogs up within the next day or two. Peace and blessings…
