This is Fernando.  Let me tell you a little bit about this boy.  He is the youngest of four boys in his family.  He lives in the colony we have been working with, Los Pinos.   He is eleven years old and he wakes himself up every morning and goes to school; his motivation is supernatural.  He is a young boy, already roughed up by life but if you are persistent with love you can break through his wall. He lives in the midst of violence, drugs, and poverty, but he is choosing life in the midst of it and I believe in him.

Earlier this week we took off on an adventure to pick up Fernando and one of his older brothers Carlos to come out to the farm for the weekend.  Thanks to our contact Tony’s 4-wheel drive we once again made it up the mountain; we pulled in front of the dirt steps that lead past many little houses and finally to Fernando’s house.  Myself, Heather, and B.Jax hopped out of the car to scale the stairs and get our boys.  We didn’t make it up half the steps and they came running, change of clothes in hand Fernando jumped into my arms.  We went on to run some errand before heading back to the farm, grocery shopping, picking up Tony’s wife Nidia from work, and picking up a movie for the boys to enjoy.  Five of us squooshed in the back seat to embark on the forty minute ride home and Fernando hopped on my lap.  Within fifteen minutes of the drive Fernando was fast asleep and I was in tears.  I cannot even begin to wrap my head around what this child has already been through in his life.  My heart is so full of the Love of the Lord for this little boy.

I believe that the Lord is going to use Fernando and his older brother Carlos to reach out to his family and community, they can bring the light of Jesus to Los Pinos and I would love it if you would join me in prayer for Fernando.  Pray that his heart would be softened and that he would grow to know Jesus as His Father, and pour out His Love.  Pray that he will demonstrate an alternative life for his family, a life of love, hope, and true joy.  Pray that he would not be paralyzed by his circumstances but that he would continue to be motivated to go to school and church, and that he would empower others to do so.  I love this child 🙂
