On our way home from the park last night we passed one of the huge “processionsâ€ or “parades” that they do here for Holy Week.  These processions consist of what look like parade floats displaying the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.  Only instead of being transported on the back of a truck or by helium these heavy wooden displays are carried by people, young and old, male and female. They carry these as payment for their sins.  They pay the church to participate in these processions in hopes that the physical sacrifice that they make in carrying it will be enough to have their sins forgiven.  Yet this float they are carrying is a display of their Savior bearing the burden for them!  The price is already paid brothers and sister, sins already forgiven we need only be still and receive His Love.

We were created for a much different procession than this, we were created for a TRIUMPHANT PROCESSION, as sons and daughters of our Savior.  What a sweet thing it is to be redeemed by the Lord, not because of what do or do not do, but because of who HE is.  and He is Love.

…Thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s triumphant procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume.
1 Cor2:14

What a triumphant procession
Your Love floods the earth
The King and His people rise up o wind like eagles.

 What a triumphant procession
A generation’s awakened
Dependent on His Love, and cleansed by His blood.

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.  Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.  For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. Romans 3:23-25a

The processions are beautiful, but I find myself wanting to scream “The price is already paid, Jesus LOVES YOU!” every time I see one.  I don’t know how well that would be received though…:)
