Hello!
So I am feeling much better today! I have been staying home the past few days and sleeping… My team got some juice and that mixed with sleep has really helped out a lot! Thank God! Lucas from my team has a pretty annoying cold right now as well so if you would continue to pray for him and the other 30 people that live in our house to stay healthy, that would be great.
Living in a house with 30 other people has been amazing! When I first saw the 3 other teams from our squad when we met up in Port Au Prince, I freaked out. This month already has been so exciting because I feel connected to our squad more. But 7 teams are now in Haiti. I wonder about them and I wish I could read all of their blogs but I am always trying to play catch up for myself when I’m online. I can’t wait to be with EVERYONE in a few weeks…
Another thing my team and others are looking forward to is our layover in the US! It’s going to be INSANE! I am already trying to figure out a wal mart shopping list so when we have those 7 hours in Orlando, we can just hit the ground running… (Literally)….
A lot of my clothes have holes in them and smell AWFUL! The going joke around the house is that we can’t wait to take a shower and then when we put on our clean clothes it’s sad because no matter how many times we wash them in a bucket, they STILL smell like Haiti. Lol.
My team is working with a pastor here named Salanda. She is elderly so we only spend a couple hours with her each day but after we ATL (ASK THE LORD) what we should do… Sometimes we end up ministering to our translator (Kender) who is a 21 year old Christian rap artist. And then other times we end up visiting with random people in their homes… This month is Deff different then last month because there is so much free time and we walk everywhere… It was nice having a cook last month but now it’s also nice because we get to cook our own meals… The other night the girls from my team decided to make a nice dinner with Chicken and Veggies…. They set it up under our gazebo in the back yard along with candles… I think the thing that truly made the night pop was all of the clothes hanging down over our food from the clothes line… Hahaha… It was pretty funny but very special at the same time…
The other night we went to Kender’s house to eat. He cooked some AMAZING pasta for us and we had orange juice… (Something about orange juice and milk is different here)…. I crave it. Forget cokes and sodas! I want juice!!! But anyway, we danced to some of his music, Kayla and I salsa danced until we couldn’t breathe, and we just had an amazing time… I think the best thing that happened that night is while we were under his little hut set up In the backyard which was BEAUTIFUL!!! I was looking at Kayla and I saw behind her head there was a HUGE tarantula on the wall…. I just looked at her with a straight face and said, “Kayla, look behind you.” It’s in those moments that I don’t freak out over things like that that I realize I have been on the world race longer than a day now… Hahaha… Well all the girls flipped out (Apart from Shawndell who wanted to keep the spider as a pet) and we just ignored it…. After we ate though, it came back… Kender was trying to be big and bad and act like it didn’t scare him but he finely looked at Lucas and said… Man, kill it. So Lucas, being the amazing “HE-MAN” that he is defeated the spider… IT was a huge event that took about 5 mins of screaming, running, laughing, and me nearly peeing my pants. I took a video on my phone and it’s simply hilarious now… Lucas caught it the first time and they were just going to try and move it away from the house but then it escaped and touched Lucas’ hand and that’s when everyone decided the spider must die. In the video you can hear Jeremy saying, “You don’t have to do this man.” …. All in all, it was epic. That video has been played tons of times showing our squad the spider adventure…
That was a great night… Here in the DR, it’s all about relationships and connecting with people. That’s our ministry… Basically, our job is to make memories that will last a lifetime. It’s pretty exciting.
Anyway, just wanted to share that story with you all…
Love you.
Britt
