Greetings everyone!
I have so much to tell you all and I honestly don’t even know where to begin! The past week I have spent living in an airport in FL, getting yelled at by EVERYONE in the DR, and I have already began to understand just how big and small this world really is.
First off, let me tell you about the DR. The Dominican Republic is a land of EXTREMES! When we first arrived, it was strange because it was the first time we had to communicate with the language barrier. People looked at us funny and started screaming BLANCO BLACO BLANCO! AMERICANO!!!!!!!! It was like we were celebrities. We stayed in a really nice catholic camp thingie in a not so nice part of town. At first it was rough getting used to EVERY single guy tttsssttting you and staring at you CONSTANTLY but it gave me a new love for my team brothers. Jeremy and Lucas have taken full responsibility of taking care of us this year and I feel so safe by their side. They are pretty awesome brothers and I am super lucky to have them on my team! Also, I have gotten to LOVE the girls on my team even more! I can’t explain my love for them in writing honestly. I just look at them and I have a beaming smile on my face! They are my family! And the P squad is more unified then ever! I’m so lucky to have a group of people such as these to know, share, and travel with.
Also, on a sad note we had to tell Jonathan Moore goodbye today. His sickness came back. It was so terrible seeing our brother go but we all just want him to get well!
We have gotten to do some pretty crazy stuff this week but yesterday we had a break and had “Adventure Day” …. We went to the beach. I got to swim in the cleanest most beautiful water I have ever seen. I made a couple of new friends there who were vacationing and thru that experience I realized how lucky I was to actually experience the real country. Because like I said, the DR is a land of extremes! You either walk down the street and smell amazing food or you smell garbage that makes you want to vomit. Its so hot down here but sometimes there is a nice breeze that comes along and makes it all better.
Anyway, today my team and 3 other teams traveled 10 hours to Haiti (Pronounced HAY-HA-TEE BTW) Lol. It was a true WR adventure to say the least! We fit 33 people on a 27 person small bus along with our packs. It was intense! Also, the bus was a honeymoon bus so it had heart and love stuff all around… It was called the love shaq. But while on the bus ride we sweat, burned up, got attacked by roaches lol and got to see the mountains of the DR. Also, our bus broke down in a small town called BONI. We met some interesting people there to say the least. We met a lady man, and a man lady. Ha! It was pretty funny. They were all so nice though! We got the bus fixed and just got to hang with the locals! Also, we didn’t have much food but God supplied all of our needs! We finely got to the border around 6 20 which is scary because the border closes at 6. After some begging and pleading and a ton of business, we crossed the border safely! We also didn’t know what we were going to do sleeping tonight but everything worked out! We are staying in haiti at an AIM base and it’s amazing! I’m loving every second here. Haiti is deff a crazy place right now. The people here are beautiful, amazing and have the best hearts I have ever seen. Even if there is a language issue we can comminicate and they are so loving! I love it here! I’m so blessed to be here and so thank you supporters for helping me out by getting me here! I’m still lacking funds but If there is one thing I have learned already, GOD PROVIDES! HARDCORE!
Tomorrow I will be leaving out with team Hinds Feet to a place called Gon Guav ??? Not sure how you spell it. But I will be camping by the ocean with them and helping out a pastor down there with his church, build houses, and work in an orphanage! I’m SO SO SO SO EXCITED! I miss you guys. This place is like a dream. I still can’t believe I’m here. I hope all of you are doing well and just know that I am praying for every single person who reads this blog!
Love you all!
Britt
