So the funny thing about this race is I am constantly reminded that I have been getting ready for this thing my entire life! Every event from my past has led me to where I am now. Nothing has ever felt so right… Even coming from a theatre background, I have learned things that help me on the field…
One of the first rules you learn on stage is this, “If you can see the audience, the audience can see you.” This has been a great help with my team but it works for opposite reasons. In theatre, you don’t want anyone to see you but here, I want my team to always be able to see me and I want to always see my team.
Another thing is the passion that theatre has given me to take risk! Even though I’m terrified of heights, sometimes I would just have to get over it and climb that huge beam and dance my butt off like I was made to do it… This whole thing of faking myself out has helped on the race as well… Sometimes when I can’t believe what I’m doing and I get scared, I honestly pretend I’m just on stage and nothing can hurt me. This allows me to have some of the most amazing experiences of my life so far… I do things that scare me without even worrying like scaling a gate, climbing a flight of sketchy scares to get on top of a roof for girls night, and just motivations to live life to the fullest.
I think the best thing about being a theatre geek on the world race is no matter what, you always have a song in your heart. There is literally a showtune for every moment of life… and when all else fails, just chose Disney. The other night we were eating at a friends house and this friend always likes for us to sing her songs… Well she made all of us sing something by ourselves and when she got to Lucas it was just a little awkward… But it didn’t take much time before he was belting out “A whole new world”… Which has become our favorite disney song to sing at random moments….
So no matter how hot it is, how homesick you get, or how your body feels… Music makes things better!
