You’ve played “duck-duck-goose”, right? Have you ever realized the difference in playing with kids vs. adults/teens?
The other night before our English class in Cambodia we played a few rounds of duck-duck-goose. I was chosen to start the game off, so I went ahead and “goosed” the smallest kid, thinking maybe she won’t be chosen much during the game if I didn’t. I slowly jogged my way around the circle and hardly made it a quarter way around before everyone started screaming for me to run! I look behind me and the fastest human being under the height of my hips was chasing me at full force. Needless to say, I lost that battle. This little kid gave everything she had to chase me down, and it worked!
Our circle was mixed with kids, teens, and adults. There was a distinct difference between the amount of effort given depending on the age of the person “goosed”. It seemed like the smaller they were, the more effort and passion they gave to the game. The older kids would mosey around slowly, but were far too embarrassed to actually run.
I couldn’t help but relate this to our Christian walk. The kids were not embarrassed, lazy, uncaring, etc. about the game- they were all in. When they were chosen, they would give everything they had to accomplish the task at hand. They exemplified what I think it means to have “child-like faith”.
The older kids/adults didn’t want to seem like they cared too much about the game, or be embarrassed by trying too hard, or getting tagged, so they gave a half effort. They were so caught up in cares; they didn’t give everything they had.
Get untangled from cares and activate some child-like faith! The easiest way I’ve found to get that fire going and give it everything you’ve got? “Tag” someone that has that child-like faith and see how fast you won’t run when they are chasing you.
Update: I am only about $2,300 away from being fully funded. With the deadline only about 10 days away, the pressure is sort of on haha. If you can help by donating that would be amazing- or even just sharing the link to my blog would help BIG! Thanks!
