A topic that has continually come up in my life lately is whether or not I choose Jesus. In every way, all the time, saying yes to Jesus and no to myself. More specifically, choosing Jesus in regards to my time. It’s a daily battle to fight for my time with Jesus. I’ve always relied on having schedules and penciling in my alone time with God, but without set schedules and with something constantly going on, I literally have to fight and sacrifice to get alone time with God.

I’m less than two weeks into the race, but I’m already realizing how I’ve taken for granted the amount of time I was able to spend with God before the race. Each morning we have a sort of scheduled “quiet time” for an hour, but our group has to leave early for ministry due to how far away it is and there are numerous other things competing for our time and attention.

Some days we have to cook or clean for the squad, showers are always nice, and I would love some extra time to do something with my hair. Needless to say, it’s extremely easy to spend away this hour. Our ministry involves a full day of construction and by the time we arrive home it’s time for dinner. After that we have night sessions and then it’s time to hit the hay because we are thoroughly exhausted from our very full day.

So each day it comes down to sacrifice. Am I willing to sacrifice something to get some time away with God to hear from Him and learn more about Him? And if so, what am I willing to give up? I can’t say that I always make the best choice, but I’m much more inclined to make the right choice than I was before, so God is certainly working in this area.

This doesn’t just apply to those on the race. Each and every day, no matter where we are, we have to choose whether we will get our daily bread from God, or choose something much less eternal.

For those of you about to go to training camp or launch, you will be constantly surrounded by new things and people you want to get to know better- don’t choose those things over your time with Christ. You need Christ more than you need anything or anyone else.

Be blessed!
