We were asked to write a blog about how we felt before leaving on this mission trip. Here is what I’m expecting…

With the missions experience that I have and seeing how God has worked in my life so far, I feel that I should be able to completely say that I’m just “expecting the unexpected.” It’s still sometimes hard to believe that I’m actually going around the world next year. It can be so overwhelming and nervewracking sometimes thinking about everything I need to do to prepare for The Race, including all the support I have to raise. At the same time I am so so excited because I know this is exactly where God wants me, and I can’t wait to see how He’s going to work in and through me this next year! I can’t even begin to imagine everything that God has in store for me on this next adventure, but I still do have a few expectations.

I expect to…..
  • miss my family.
  • miss my friends.
  • give up the comforts of home.
  • miss some events at home: my parents 25th anniversary, a friend’s wedding, my little cousins first day of kindergarten, birthdays, and holidays.
  • rely on God for daily strength, courage, and patience.
  • be broken over and over again.
  • pray…alot…and to learn to really listen to what God is teaching me.
  • learn what it truly means to be selfless.
  • learn how to be more flexible.
  • have my view of the world changed.
  • have some culture shock.
  • make new life long friends.
  • eat new foods.
  • learn at least a few words in 11 different languages.
  • be tired.
  • both laugh and cry.
  • serve the poor.
  • see miracles.
  • learn to truly love “the least of these.”
  • grow closer to my Father each and every day.

“Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. . . were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.” Ps. 40:5
