Last night I watched a movie called “End of the Spear.” I’m not sure if you have ever seen it, if you haven’t I recommend it. It’s a true story about a group of natives called the Waodani Tribe in the jungles of Ecuador and a group of missionaries that were speared by this tribe. The movie is narrated by one of the son’s of a missionary that went to minister to the Waodani’s. There was a conversation in the movie that just hit my heart that was between the father and the child, it went something like this…

Child: Dad, are you going to shoot them if they attack you?

Father: No, because they aren’t ready to go to Heaven yet, but I am.

Wow.. You know there are people out there that have never heard the name of Jesus before? It blows my mind to believe there are people out there that live in these kind of conditions where they just go around killing people because that’s all they know. The end of the movie is absolutely beautiful. It’s a story about grace, mercy and forgiveness. If I was put in that situation where I was about to risk my life to spread the good news to a remote village, I sit here wondering how I would react in that moment. Would I defend my life or would I stand there and be a martyr? Does this sound like anyone we know? Jesus Christ… He was a living, walking, breathing martyr. He risked it all for us, because He loved us SO much.

I hope this word of encouragement spoke to anyone out there. For all the missionaries out on the field, He has called us to be martyrs. What an honor to be able to do such a thing.
