Since we have been in Costa Rica for a couple of weeks now and you may be wondering what we have been doing. Well we have been busy! We have been playing with some of the kids from different neighborhoods and lots of cleaning.
There are a couple neighborhoods we have visited and we just play with the kids for hours. Some of us will play soccer or give the kids piggy back rides. I am more into the playing with sidewalk chalk, blowing bubbles, and coloring books. Every time we go the kids have a blast and are sad to see us go. You might think what does playing with kids have to do with Jesus? It allows 6:8 to build a relationship with the community. We are just there to love the kids.
We spent one day cleaning a local coffee plantation that has been turned into the town dump and place for other illegal activities. There were piles and piles of trash. We were ask by several locals why we were cleaning because it would just be trashed again and if we cleaned for 2 years we still would not finish cleaning. For us it was a lesson of futility. We knew it was useless but yet we did it anyway. A few days ago we passed by and it looked just as it did before we started. Please pray for this land that it healed and no longer a place of shame and sin.
We prepared a Vacation Bible School for the kids this week. We had crafts, a story, a game, and a new song for them each day. I have to say this was a challenge for me; it put me in a place that challenged me but it was a good challenge. Please remember to pray for my squad and me. Costa Rica is the beginning of a great journey.
