As I sit here celebrating Christmas in India, I can’t help but think about the drastic differences between last year’s Christmas and Christmas this year.
Last Christmas, I was surrounded by my incredible family.
This Christmas, I am surrounded by my pack of 11 beautiful women.
Last Christmas, I drove a sea-doo on the Caribbean Sea.
This Christmas, I ride in tuk-tuks (which are almost always lost) in Bangalore.
Last Christmas, I drank coffee with my dad.
This Christmas, I drink chai with my team.
Last Christmas, I ate an abundance of delicious food.
This Christmas, I eat an abundance of rice.
Last Christmas, I worried about tan lines my bathing suit would make.
This Christmas, I worry that my shoulders, knees, and ankles might accidentally show in my effort to be culturally sensitive.
Last Christmas, I had a magazine and sunglasses in my hands.
This Christmas, I have beautiful (sometimes diaper-less) Indian children in my hands.
Last Christmas, I sang Christmas carols in the atrium of a cruise ship.
This Christmas, I sang Christmas carols at Home of Hope in order to help bring hope to women who are destitute and dying.
Last Christmas, my hands were used to open gifts.
This Christmas, my hands are used by God to heal–backs that were crooked are made straight, feet that couldn’t shuffle on their own are taking steps across the floor, hands that were crippled in pain are now moving pain-free.
Last Christmas, I came first.
This Christmas, Jesus is first.
Jesus came to give us abundant life in Him (John 10:10). That means that we are meant to enjoy our life in Him. So, enjoy time with your family and friends. Enjoy time giving each other gifts and eating delicious food, but whatever you are doing this Christmas, remember why we celebrate this day and keep Jesus first.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
