Day 153: Kigali, Rwanda

Pastor Bhati is our contact for this month. We are working with his church as well as living with his family of 7–his wife, Robert, Prince, Joshua, Gideon, and Angel–and a sweet lady from the church, Jocelyn, who is helping their family out while we are here.
Day 154: Kigali, Rwanda

We watched Hotel Rwanda tonight with Pastor Bhati. Afterward he told us about the genocide from his perspective. It’s incredible to see the beauty of this country when a mere 18 years ago these same streets were lined with bodies.
Day 155: Kigali, Rwanda

Pastor took us into town today to get some necessities like water and toilet paper. Technically we are living in Kigali, but we are living in the district of Gasabo on the very outskirts of town where we walk 25 minutes down a dirt road to get to the paved road where we take a bus for another 30-45 minutes to get to town. As we were walking down the dirt road, this little guy stood in the tree shouting “mzungu, mzungu” until we were out of earshot.
Day 156: Kigali, Rwanda

Hopping on the back of a moto is a common mode of transportation here in Rwanda (Don’t worry, mom, this picture was taken right before I put my helmet on).
Day 157: Kigali, Rwanda

Today was our first day of children’s ministry at the church. We acted out Bible stories, sang songs, and loved on the kids. I love how much these children love to dance and sing out in worship.
Day 158: Kigali, Rwanda

This was my little friend at church tonight. She was a bit fussy; so, after preaching, I became her babysitter. It was a hard job, I know. : )
Day 159: Kigali, Rwanda

I really don’t understand Africa time. Kids ministry was supposed to start at 10. Naturally, Pastor jumped in the shower at 10:10, he decided to shine his shoes at 10:45, and we started our 45 minute trek to church a little after 11. Despite our late arrival, the kids were there ready, waiting, and excited to sing songs and learn more about Jesus.
