We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to missions…so here we go!
Well I grew up in a christian home as many of you know. My idea of missions was far from how I view them today. I guess I always pictured some guy in the middle of the jungle finding people to preach to. Anyhow that is not really what goes down. I soon realized it was about sharing the word and you know just being there for humanity trying to better the lives of others when possible.
My story is not some huge exciting epiphany but more of a laid back sort of oh wow I can really do this! I had been attending lifechurch for a couple of months and during the ice storm in early feb of this year I was playing around on the internet just sort of surfing for boredom sake. Anyway I was just checking out the website lifechurch.tv under missions and it was sort of the standard go here do that for a week or so then at the bottom of the list was “THE WORLD RACE” so I said to myself hmm lets see what this is all about and to my surprise it was the mission trip MADE for me. I read everything I could find on the world race and I couldnt get enough. I also prayed about it and asked God if he was the one putting these desires in my heart and the more I learned the more it was confirmed. Later that morning I was talking to my mom and basically the first word’s after she knew all the info about the trip were “DO IT.” from that moment on I knew it was it. I was going to apply and commit to an 11 month long mission trip.
Now I’m sure you’re asking yourself now okay has this girl ever been on a mission trip?!? The answer to that is yes. A couple here and there in high school and even before in middle school but i had never given it a thought above oh this will be a good a week or two out of town hangin out with my friends helping build a house or gutting a house, praying for people, and serving food. Never did I think it was what I feel the lord has led me to do with my life. Well at least not until a couple of months ago. So here I am doing what he has laid out for me. What an amazing opportunity he has given me!
I’m so glad that I had the patience to wait for His plans to unfold. I should have known what an awesome plan He had in store. I cant wait to go through this experience to learn more, see just what He has planned for me, travel, be in His presence, and to make new friends who will all join me in this!
