This past month, we worked with a ministry called Heart of Christ in La Ermita, Honduras. Heart of Christ ministers to women and children who are victims of abuse by fighting for legal justice and providing for their basic needs. Check out this awesome ministry at www.heartofchristhnduras.org. We have been working with the thirteen wonderful children who live in the Heart of Christ children’s home every day. These children have been through so much pain in their short lives, but this ministry has given them hope for the future.
Millions of individuals throughout the world live with the reality human trafficking, abuse, neglect, rape, incest, abandonment, etc. Honduras is a hotbed of sexual abuse and human trafficking. More the 1 in 3 women are sexually abused, and many women are impregnated prior to their eighteenth birthday. Many of the children that live at this ministry were raped or are products of rape. One sixteen year old mother lives here with her 4 year old daughter. One child was left on the side of the road to die just hours after her birth. It is easy to hear their stories, know the depravity of the world around us, and be discouraged, but there is hope.
As Christians, we are called to stand in the gap. There is a gap between the injustice of the world and the justice that the Lord craves. Many victims of abuse have no hope of changing their situation. No one they know is coming to help them. No one they know cares about them. They have no plans for a future because all they know is the suffering they have experienced. So many people live on the side of the gap with no hope of justice unless someone will step into the gap and help change their situation. You can hope for someone.
We serve a God who is good and bigger than the terrible sin in this world. He has already won the war, but we have many battles still to face. The task at hand is huge. The suffering and hopelessness is massive, but ministries like Heart of Christ and so many others are standing in the gap for these victims. There are thousands of individuals whose lives have been changed because this ministry and ones like it decided to stand in the gap. I see the smiles of thirteen beautiful children every day, and they remind me that there is hope.
The Lord has given me so much in my life. I will not stand idly by and allow others to suffer when I know I can make a difference. I will be the hands and feet of Jesus. I will stand in the gap, will you?
You can check out my Facebook page for pictures from this month. Please continue to pray for my squad and for my team as we move into month two in Guatemala. I am so happy to be here. The Lord is already doing such amazing things on my Race, but I am still in need of continued financial partnership. If you are able, please consider donating so I can stay on this incredible journey.
