I was in a car accident in January of 2013. I was driving back to work from my lunch break when a car ran a stop sign and t-boned me. I saw the car coming but I knew he had a stop sign and didn’t really think much about it. Next thing I know, I hear a loud bang and feel my body shift to the left and everything went black. I only blacked out for a few seconds and when I realized what had happened, my car was stopped and smoking a lot. I looked around and could not find the other car at first. Once I turned my body completely around, I saw the other car and the driver of the car walking towards me. Traffic was stopped. People kept coming to me asking if I was okay and all I could think was “I need my phone; I need to call my mom.”
Now if you back up in time a little bit, this was a time shortly after my parents’ divorce and I was not on speaking terms with my mom. A lot of things happened, a lot of lies were told to me from many different sources, and I was not happy. I hadn’t talked to her in weeks and hadn’t really planned to either. But I knew in that moment in time, I needed her. I needed her to calm me down and come be by my side. I wasn’t seriously injured, but I was shaken up for sure. This was the first car accident I was ever in and I was scared.
I called her and she answered right away. She could tell by the tone in my voice that something was wrong. She gathered her things and left work right away to come be by my side. My dad came too. After my car was towed (and I found out later, it was completely totaled) both of my parents were standing with me, in the driveway of the house my sister and I were renting at the time and things felt right again.
After a few minutes of convincing, I finally agreed to go to the hospital and get checked out. Turns out I had a sprained wrist and a minor concussion. (I guess momma is right sometimes)! But that is not the point of this blog.
This car accident happened 15 months ago and the other driver’s insurance did pay off my car for what it was worth but that was it at the time. I have been working closely with my attorney to see what he could do about my medical bills. I finally got a call LAST week saying he got a hold of the other guys insurance and they want to settle this case. Now as I said before, I have never been in a car accident and I have never had an attorney for anything so I was not sure what this means. Well he told me that they were going to pay for my bills plus pain and suffering for the physical therapy and missing a few days of work. The amount that I am getting is getting me to training camp!
I could not be more thrilled. This car accident that happened 15 months ago, at a time when I had never even heard of the world race, is paying for me to get to my first deadline! God sure does know what he is doing when he does things. Every day I am learning that more and more and I am learning to have faith and trust in Him. It is easier said than done but I am working towards it.
After my check gets mailed today, I will have come to my first deadline of $3,500. That will bring me to being a little more than 20% funded. I need to be 50% funded to launch with E-squad in July so I still need help. I still have some awesome “team brittany” lime green shirts for sale for $20 each. I can mail them anywhere so if you don’t live in Columbus, that is totally fine!!! I am also throwing out a challenge to everyone that if I have $10,000 in my world race account by June 15, I will shave my head and donate my hair. Help me help the lives of cancer patients as well as the people in the 11 countries that I am going to in just a few short months.
Peace && Love!!
