In the last week, our team has done two different exercises that include thankfulness. The first one was our squad leader asked us to find three things from this month that we were thankful for. Without a beat, I knew mine.

The first thing I am thankful for is family dinners. This month we are in charge of our own food so we decided as a team to do breakfast and lunch on our own, then cook dinner together. We have a partner and go grocery shopping, cook, and serve up the food. During our dinners, we laugh and joke, we talk about what happened during the day, we just enjoyed our time together. It reminded me a lot of being a kid and having family dinner. I love it!

The second thing I am thankful for this month is the one on one time I have had with my teammates. It is natural to spend a lot of time with the people you are super close to but this month we challenged each other and ourselves to spend time with everyone. I have loved this. I have gotten to know my team on a deeper level whether it was cook a meal together, walking to ministry together,  or journeying through India trying to find WiFi!

The third thing I am thankful for is our team times lasting forever. It is funny because last month, I constantly complained about how long team time lasted but this month I am thankful for it. I love that we get together and we have so much to say. We joke, we cry, we are able to be vulnerable with each other. We have it all. Most nights, team time lasts for 2-3 hours because we just want to be together. It is amazing how you can live with 8 people all day everyday but you get together at night and still have so much to share. It is awesome! I love this team!

The second thankfulness challenge we had was 30 minutes of nonstop thankfulness. We went around a circle for 30 minutes saying what we were thankful for. When I first heard of this exercise, I was like wow this is going to be hard….but it wasn’t. It was really easy. In fact, when the 30 minutes were over, we all had so many things we wanted to add to the list.

Both of these exercises were so cool for me. We normally do this kind of stuff in November but we don’t often stop to think about what we are thankful for on a daily basis. I want to challenge you to try this. Tonight, when you are with your family, friends, roommates, or whoever you are around, share three things you are thankful for. If you live alone, call someone or text them.

I am thankful today for the world race. I am thankful that my first 6 months were hard as hell because it is making this month even greater. I am thankful for the relationships I have built and the lessons I have learned. I am thankful for everyone who has prayed, donated, sent letters and emails, and supported me throughout this journey but it isn’t over! I am only a few days away from my final fundraising deadline. I still need a little more than $4000 to be fully funded and if I don’t get that in by the end of this month, I might be sent home. Please help me finish this race!
