A week ago today, k squad arrived in Quiche, Guatemala. We are together as a squad, sleeping in tents, eating dinner together, and enjoying our first month of the race. My team as well as team surrendered are working in a daycare. When we got our assignment for the month, I was so excited. I have tons of experience with kids and in daycares so I knew this would be perfect for me. As we arrived on the first day, we picked which class we wanted to work with and off we went. I went to the baby room with my teammate Erica. We spent the day hugging kids, throwing blocks, and just having fun. We did that for two days and had a nice long weekend.
Many people from our squad we out of town for the weekend but I decided to stay back and enjoy some peace and quiet. On Saturday, I had the opportunity to go to lunch with a friend and our ministry host. She told us a lot of her story as well as asked about ours. We talked for four hours like we were always the best of friends she challenged me to let some things go this year and really embrace the race in every way possible.
Talking to her was so awesome and so comfortable. It is nice to have a motherly figure here being so far away from home. The race finally is starting to feel really real and I am so honored and blessed to be on this journey. I feel so close to God here in Guatemala (maybe it is because we are living on top of a mountain)! Just kidding. But really God is here and He is at work in us. Well I can’t speak for anyone else but I know God is working in me.
My prayers for this month are that I really live in the moment and not focus on things that I can’t control. I am also praying for letting go of the past so I can embrace what God has for me in the future.
