This month in Kigali, Rwanda, my team is working with a church and ministry called Successful Christian Ministries. One of our ministries a few mornings every week is to assist with a kids program. Two months ago, the pastor set up this program to ensure that kids (approximately ages 2-5) had a safe place to go that would act as a pre-k and day care. There are 3-4 ‘teachers’ that volunteer their time and energy to over 90 kids at this church program! They sing, dance, and are currently learning some basics in English. Working with them for the past few weeks, we have noticed a need for supplies, games, toys, crafts, and more. The volunteers are working with 90+ kids with ZERO supplies! If you have any teaching or childcare experience at all, you know how INSANE that can get. They have big plastic chairs that they circle up, and a torn up children’s bible story book (in ENGLISH not even in their own language). The pastors also provide a meal of porridge (and sometimes one cracker per kid) every day out of their own personal funds.
Along with supplies, the pastor is really wanting to supply uniforms for the kids to wear to the school. They would be buying fabric and making the clothing themselves for the kids and would like to eventually supply the kids with more than one outfit to wear to school. Most of the kids show up with clothes that are very worn and very torn up. For each kid, uniforms would cost approximately 10,000 Rwandan Franks ($13 USD).
I know we have asked for a lot from all of you back home the past 10 months, and we appreciate all of your support! We are REALLY wanting to bless this ministry with some new supplies so that they may continue their amazing Kingdom work here! We leave here on October 19th and our goal is to raise half of the funds it would take to cover uniform costs for the children as well as some money for supplies, porridge, and crackers! God willing, we will shop for the supplies while we are here so that we are able to bless the pastors and volunteers (and the kids)! Please, please prayerfully consider donating to this cause!!!
