We have arrived in Bulgaria from Bolivia with 4 flights and 2 days of air travel in between. We are out of the Spanish speaking world and have entered the beautiful region of Eastern Europe. Needless to say, I was incredibly giddy when we landed in Bulgaria.
This month my team is extremely blessed to have an apartment in Vidin, Bulgaria to ourselves with a hot shower, washer, and wifi. The church we are working alongside is basically in the basement of a castle (video coming soon) and we will be doing outreach in the gypsies communities. The castle overlooks the Danube River which shares a bank with Romania. Feel free to read that again. !!!!!!
When we aren’t in the gypsy communities, we will be spending time at an orphanage (YASSSSS), cleaning up the church, or spending time with an incredible new believer we’ve had the opportunity to get to know over the past few days. He’s hungry for the Word, very interested in American culture, and has quite the sense of humor.
The residue of communist rule and oppression streaks this history filled city. Pray for us to be able to shine the light of the Lord in a way the people of Vidin will be willing and able to receive. Evangelical Christians are seen as crazy here and people likely won’t be as open minded as we’ve experienced in the past 5 months.
I’m swooning over the Milka & Kinder chocolate, JACOBS coffee, and fruit picked straight from the tree. Roses flood this city and their scent is ridiculously strong everywhere we walk. Our hosts are genuine, personable, and focused on bringing the Kingdom. Last night they threw us a Bulgarian welcome party where we ate typical Bulgarian food, played cards, and prayed over our month. June in this beautiful country cannot disappoint and I’m excited dig in.
Side note: Here is a video from my month in Honduras (month 3)
