This month we are working with an awesome 22 year old, Sarah Mae, who is from California and has been living in Uganda the past two years.
Our ministry is simply living life. Befriending the kids who sell fruit on the streets and having them over for lunch, playing board games with high schoolers, and simply walking around with Kingdom eyes.
But as we were walking around, I realized how much I miss home and how privileged I am to live in America. It started with walking on the red clay/ mud/ dirt road, nearly rolling my ankle 988876665996 times and thinking, Gosh, I sure am thankful for pavement. And then the thoughts poored in. After being of the country for nine months, i have become very grateful for some simple things of the US, and really miss them
I miss…
Paved roads
Heinz ketchup
Chick fil a
My own car
Alone time
Radio
Hot showers
Reliable wifi
Free water
Strawberries
Stable electricity
Old friends
Redbox
Special orders
Family holidays
But as we kept walking, I realized how I am so thankful for the way things are right now in Uganda too…
I enjoy…
Being able to walk everywhere
Fresh fruit
6 constant roommates
New years country resolutions
Not being distracted by wifi or cell phones
Being able to talk about anything and everything (which we do)
Cooking meals for up to 10 people
New friends daily
Riding dirt bike taxis anywhere we go
Having one giant wardrobe between 7 girls
Workout buddies
Getting creative when the electricity goes out!
Pulling pranks on squad mates
Being in AFRICA
Getting praised for going another day without showering
And the list goes on and on!
I know in about 75 days from now I will be boarding a plane states bound and I will be dying to have this back.
It seems like the grass is always greener on the other side.
I live in the states, I want to be abroad.
I live abroad, I want to be back in the states.
But I am choosing the believe the grass is greener here! I do miss the luxuries and comforts of the states, but there is a time and place for those and that's simply not now.
So until I find myself on US soil I will continue to be thankful to be in Africa, for fresh fruits, temperamental Internet, and especially unpacked roads.
Take a minute to praise Jesus for having you exactly where you are right now.
Praise Him for the good things and the hard things! He is worthy!
