I do.
Especially tonight.
John 6:5-13
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”
Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
As many of you know, this week, in a fundraising effort, I decided to try a Facebook fundraiser. I had seen several other racers do and thought it was a great idea!
The concept: Since the World Race is 11 countries in 11 months, everything is about 11n11! So in order to reach out to my friends, why not have a fundraiser based on the same concept, 11n11 (or in this case, 11on11)!
I asked all my Facebook friends, family, and fellow racers to commit to giving me $11 on the 11th of August! When you still have $9,000 to raise, every little bit counts!
From the beginning the response was incredible! Old high school friends who I hadn't spoken to in years claimed to be "attending." People who had already financially supported me for the Race were also "attending." Even fellow teammates who are raising money themselves were "attending." I was getting my socks knocked off!
But then tonight I got a phone call from an anonymous donor. They said they had heard about my new Facebook fundraiser and wanted in. They stated that they would match every $11 donation, dollar for dollar, up to $2,500! I about fell out of my chair. I was presented with the opportunity to make this into a $5,000 fundraiser! (Isn't it ironic that that is how many people Jesus fed with the fish?)
People's money was literally going to be multiplied just the way the fish were.
I would like to retell the feeding of the 5,000 how it applies to me currently. Check out the parallels! Patiently awaiting to see how the Lord provides and knowing he is going to do it in abundance!
When Jesus looked up and saw a large fundraising amount of $15,500 , he said to Brittany, “Where shall we get the money to fund this mission trip?” He asked this only to test her, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
Another of his disciples, Brittany's fellow racers and friends spoke up, “Here we can each donate $11 on August 11th.”
Jesus said, “Watch what I will do with that.” There was plenty of people signed up to give $11.
Then Brittany's donor called and shared that they wanted to match all donations up to $2500. Jesus then took all the donations, gave thanks, and Brittany's support account began filling up with donation after donation.
When Brittany was fully funded,He said to his disciples, “Gather the extra donations and share them with your teammates. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and saw that the Lord provided abundantly!
Please prayfully consider partnering with me for $11 on the 11th! Remember your $11 will immediately turn into $22 with my generous donor matching. Please share this link to my $11 on the 11th Facebook event with all your friends. Praying the Lord shows up and we not only meet, but we exceed $2,500 for matching. Believing He is able!
